Microsoft invests in local programs that benefit people of all ages. In Hortolândia and Sumaré, our collaborations are organized by our focus areas of Skills for Jobs, Enabling Sustainability, and Empowering Communities.
The following program list contains a sample of the investments Microsoft makes on an annual basis.
Skills for jobs
Microsoft believes everyone should have access to the skills, technology, and opportunity they need to succeed in a changing economy. We support the activities of the following partners in Hortolândia and Sumaré:
Cidadão Pró-Mundo (CPM) promotes opportunities of insertion and social integration for young people from public schools in Brazil, through free English teaching.
- The English Language Program will create four new English online classes for the Hortolândia and Sumaré communities, benefiting 60 applicants in the region. This project addresses the critical need for access to quality education and language learning opportunities, particularly among disadvantaged youth in Brazil. Statistics indicate that less than 5% of the population in Brazil can communicate in English, which creates a gap in access to academic and professional opportunities. CPM aims to recruit a total of 40 collaborators that will volunteer as English teachers.
The Microsoft Datacenter Academy is an initiative empowering individuals to excel in the dynamic landscape of cloud computing, IT and critical environment. The initiative collaborates with education partners in datacenter communities, delivering training, certifications, scholarships, grants, mentorship, and work experience.
- Datacenter Academy Scholarship program provides financial support for those students who come from underrepresented backgrounds, by removing barriers and promoting a diverse workforce. Datacenter Academy Scholarships help pay for the cost of tuition, fees, and certifications for historically underrepresented students enrolled in IT/STEM, promoting the acquisition of skills and certifications for 21st-century employment in a world increasingly reliant on cloud computing big data.
Generation is a global nonprofit network that supports adults to achieve economic mobility through a career. Its mission is to transform education to employment systems to prepare, place, and support people into life-changing careers that would otherwise be inaccessible. Its vision is a meaningful career and sustained well-being for every person, anywhere in the world. Through its program, adults of all ages—whether unemployed, underemployed, or needing to learn new skills—can access the training, support, and job opportunities needed to transform their life paths. Generation addresses a wide range of challenges faced by employers, including shortages of skilled talent, subpar on-the-job performance, the need for reskilling, and high turnover in critical roles.
- Generation Campinas aims to enhance diversity and inclusion within the tech industry by recruiting, training, and supporting approximately 70 learners, including mid-career professionals as well as other underrepresented individuals, to access tech programs. The grant will offer financial support to those participants most in need and provide those who cannot afford it with access to both notebooks and internet connectivity. This comprehensive support system will enable them to acquire new skills or enhance existing ones, ultimately positioning them for improved job prospects within the digital economy.
Enabling sustainability
Climate change requires swift, collective action and technological innovation. We are committed to meeting our own goals while helping communities to do the same. We support the activities of the following partners in Hortolândia:
Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) advances the science, practice, and policy of ecological restoration to sustain biodiversity, improve resilience in a changing climate, and re-establish an ecologically healthy relationship between nature and culture.
- FY24 Forest of the Future aims to restore 9.1 hectares of the Atlantic Forest. SER and SOS Mata Atlântica are working together to inspire, motivate, and engage people to protect, preserve, and restore priority areas for ecological conservation by integrating awareness-raising actions among the surrounding community, mobilizing public authorities, and organizing civil society. The restoration action will be led by specialized professionals from SOS Mata Atlantica. Two environmental education actions will be carried out, including community planting of a small portion of the area, an activity with a dynamic model explaining the importance of restoring natural environments.
