Microsoft invests in local programs that benefit people of all ages. In North Carolina, our collaborations are organized by our focus areas of Building Digital Skills, Enabling Sustainability, and Empowering Communities. The following program list contains a sample of the investments Microsoft makes on an annual basis.

Microsoft believes everyone should have access to the skills, technology, and opportunity they need to succeed in a changing economy.   The Catawba Valley Community College Foundation  is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to supporting the vision and mission of Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) in transforming our community while empowering our students. Catawba Valley Community College is supported by the state, but enhanced by the Catawba Valley Community College Foundation, which enables the institution to strive toward its greater potential.

• K64 Educational STEM-tilskud støtter de lokale skolesystemer i lokalsamfundene Hickory, Conover og Catawba gennem K64-organisationen.
• Catawba Valley Community College cyber- og it-infrastrukturprojekt. Cybersikkerhedsprogrammet fokuserer på at imødekomme kritiske talentbehov i branchen med fokus på cyberrobusthedstræning for sundhedspersonale i frontlinjen i hele staten om, hvordan man fortsætter driften af et hospital, når et cyberangreb lukker anlægget. IT-infrastrukturopgraderingen er nødvendig for at erstatte forældet udstyr på kollegiet for at støtte fakultetet og de studerende.

Climate change requires swift, collective action and technological innovation. We are committed to meeting our own goals while helping communities to do the same.   Carolina Land & Lakes  (CLL) serves as a bridge between local communities, federal and state agencies, and other stakeholders to preserve, protect, and provide responsible stewardship and utilization of local and environmental resources.

• River Restoration Debris Blockage-projektet støtter fjernelsen af affaldsblokeringer i floderne Henry Fork og Jacob Fork. Carolina Land and Lakes (CLL) bestilte en undersøgelse af floderne, der dokumenterede 65 affaldsblokeringer blandt begge floder og bestemte, hvad der var i hver blokering.

  In partnership with Catawba Lands Conservancy  (CLC), Society for Ecological Restoration  (SER) advances the science, practice, and policy of ecological restoration to sustain biodiversity, improve resilience in a changing climate, and re-establish an ecologically healthy relationship between nature and culture.

• Restaureringsprojektet for Mountain Creek er et program for beplantning med indfødte planter og fjernelse af invasive arter i et 80 hektar stort fredet område i Mountain Creek Park. Med finansiering fra Microsoft tilsås de eroderede bredder med passende indfødte græsser, som vil skabe et bredt kompleks af rødder, der vil mindske erosionen og skabe en naturlig barriere mod andre forurenende stoffer, der kan nå søen, og øge parkens samlede biodiversitet. Dernæst vil CLC begynde at fjerne invasive planter i det 80 hektar store fredede område, og CLC vil plante indfødte træer, buske og urteagtige planter. Denne strategi tjener det dobbelte formål at beskytte jorden og give konkurrence mod invasive planteplanter. Valget af indfødt vegetation vil være baseret på den specifikke placering og det naturlige samfund.

Styrkelse af lokalsamfund

Microsoft is committed to strengthening communities and empowering the organizations that help them thrive. Whether affected by a recent emergency or decades of challenges, we use data, technology, and strategic investments to restore and support them for future generations.   Catawba Science Center  is a 35,000 sq. ft. science technology museum whose purpose is to change lives and inspire learning through science and wonder.

• AI-udstillingen: Mind &; Machine-bevillingen støtter tre projekter på Catawba Science Center. For det første fokuserer udstillingen om kunstig intelligens: Your Mind & The Machine på ChatGPT, Dall-E, Deep Learning og mere, så eleverne kan interagere og lære, hvordan denne nye teknologi fungerer. For det andet understøtter Portal to Science Scholarship sommer sjov videnskabsklasser. For det tredje giver Partners in Science studerende fra lokale skoler mulighed for at deltage i skoleudflugter til videnskabscentret for uddannelsesprogrammer.

  Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry  (ECCCM) provides emergency help for food, clothing, transportation, utilities, fuel oil, medicine, and rent/financial assistance.

• Eastern Catawba Food Pantry støtter Catawba County-samfundet med fødevareusikkerhed. Dette projekt støttede indkøb af nødvendige dagligvarer for fortsat at sørge for dem i nød.
