Understanding Microsoft datacenters in Aragón

What it means to have Microsoft in your community
We believe that companies that can do more, should. That’s why we remain focused on key areas in which technology can and must benefit the future of humanity and our planet. Aligned with Microsoft’s global commitments, our datacenter community pledge is to build and operate digital infrastructure that addresses community challenges and creates local benefits where we operate and where our employees live and work.

Returning water to the planet through technology
In partnership with Agua Segura, we have launched a water replenishment project in the Ebro River Basin, aimed at optimizing water use in agriculture through smart irrigation tools and digital training. To date, the project has achieved an estimated water saving of 115,337 m³ and delivered four training workshops between March and May 2025, with 72 local producers participating. The program is set to benefit 740 hectares and more than 710 farmers in total. Complementary environmental and climate education workshops are also being held for children and youth aged 8 to 16, reinforcing environmental awareness from an early age.

Sparking interest in technology among students
Awakening STEM Vocations through Minecraft Education, developed in collaboration with Fundación Ibercaja and Leftcraft Education, has brought technology closer to more than 1,250 students from 19 schools across Zaragoza, La Muela, and Villamayor de Gállego. Throughout the 2024–2025 academic year, students took part in practical workshops on creativity, coding, and digital safety, culminating in the contest “Exploring Goya in Minecraft,” where they recreated spaces inspired by the works of Francisco de Goya. Winning projects included digital versions of Zaragoza’s Central Market, the Goya Temple, and the Aljafería Palace. The program will continue in 2025–2026, expanding to schools across Zaragoza, Huesca, and Teruel.

Providing space for learning and technological creativity
In March 2025, Microsoft organized the Hacking the Future hackathon in Zaragoza, together with the Technological Institute of Aragón (ITA), Tecnara, and the Government of Aragón. The event brought together more than 120 participants, including students and professionals, to co-create technological solutions in key sectors such as sustainability, mobility, agriculture, and aerospace. Held within The Wave conference, this first edition has become a benchmark for hands-on learning and innovation in Aragón’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. A second edition is planned for 2026, expanding to all three provinces.
