Understanding Microsoft datacenters in Aragón

What it means to have Microsoft in your community
We believe that companies that can do more, should. That’s why we remain focused on key areas in which technology can and must benefit the future of humanity and our planet. Aligned with Microsoft’s global commitments, our datacenter community pledge is to build and operate digital infrastructure that addresses community challenges and creates local benefits where we operate and where our employees live and work.
Returning water to the planet through technology
In partnership with Agua Segura and Agrow Analytics, Microsoft is supporting a water replenishment project in the Ebro River Basin aimed at optimizing agricultural water use through smart irrigation technology, real-time data, and digital training. During the 2025 agricultural season, the initiative achieved estimated water savings of more than 150,000 m³ across participating farms covering more than 740 hectares. The program also provides training in irrigation efficiency and sustainable agriculture and is complemented by environmental and climate education workshops for children and educators.

Sparking interest in technology among students
Awakening STEM Vocations through Minecraft Education, developed in collaboration with Fundación Ibercaja and Letcraft, has continued to expand across Aragón. Its second edition reached nearly 30 schools and more than 1,500 students across Zaragoza, Huesca, and Teruel through 71 workshops. Students developed skills in programming, cybersecurity, AI, and the responsible use of technology through practical learning experiences.
The program also included the second edition of “Exploring Goya in Minecraft,” involving 19 schools and nearly 1,000 students, who used Minecraft Education to explore the life, work, and legacy of Francisco de Goya through technology and digital storytelling.

Providing space for learning and technological creativity
In March 2025, Microsoft organized the Hacking the Future hackathon in Zaragoza, together with the Technological Institute of Aragón (ITA), Tecnara, and the Government of Aragón. The event brought together more than 120 participants, including students and professionals, to co-create technological solutions in key sectors such as sustainability, mobility, agriculture, and aerospace. Held within The Wave conference, this first edition has become a benchmark for hands-on learning and innovation in Aragón’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Following the success of the first edition, Hacking the Future expanded across all three provinces of Aragón in 2026, with events in Teruel, Huesca, and Zaragoza. More than 400 participants and 30 companies and organizations collaborated to develop technology-based responses to real challenges affecting strategic sectors in the region, strengthening connections between young talent, companies, universities, and institutions.
