Taoyuan citizens gain digital and sustainability skilling
In the first half of 2024, nearly 8,000 residents in Taoyuan, Taiwan, attended digital and sustainability skills courses and events provided by a Microsoft Datacenter Community Development investment. These projects had two goals at heart: to have a positive impact on the local community and to provide a pathway for prosperity and well-being within Taoyuan City.
AI skills encourage digital confidence
The digital skills project, named the Information Power Alliance, encouraged fundamental AI and cybersecurity skills for citizens of Taoyuan City. It came to fruition through Far Eastern Memorial Foundation in a partnership with the Taoyuan City Government and Yuan Ze University. Courses focused on promoting productivity, competitiveness, and innovation capabilities with AI applications and information security. High-quality resources provided by Microsoft were paired with Yuan Ze University’s faculty knowledge and curriculum development to host classes for 3,267 people, and 631 participants successfully completed the training. During the courses, 17 videos were produced with two live online broadcasts.
Sustainability in action
A second project provided sustainability skilling opportunities through volunteer days, food-agriculture education, environmental education, nature therapy workshops, and community elder luncheons in Dalin Village and Fengu Village. This project was formed through a partnership between the Society of Wilderness and Jane-Der Primary School.
participated in volunteer days in which they supported agricultural work that included planting, irrigation, and harvesting. At the Jane-Der Primary School, 914 students learned about harvesting and cooking in relation to agriculture and food preparation. During 12 nature therapy workshops, learned how to make moss balls, plant succulents, and dye cloth. And eight community elder luncheons provided 1,800 community members with themed gatherings, including a Lantern Festival and a Dragon Boat Festival.
