Microsoft is building a datacenter in La Porte, Indiana.

Datacenters provide the physical infrastructure for the technology we depend on in our daily lives. When you open an app, join a virtual meeting, save photos, or play online games, you are using a datacenter. Local businesses, schools, hospitals, and government services in La Porte and across Indiana rely on this technology every day.
Construction update—July 2026
Construction in La Porte continues to move forward steadily as work progresses at the future Microsoft datacenter site. We appreciate the continued support from the La Porte community.
Construction overview
As of May 2026, Ryan Central has been confirmed as the general contractor for grading work at the La Porte site. Ryan Central crews continue to prepare the site for future vertical building construction, with current activity focused on the northern end of the property. This work includes leveling and shaping the surface so the area is ready for the next phase of development which will mark the start of vertical build. Progress continues to move forward productively, and grading work is expected to continue through the rest of the year.

Construction hours
Construction work at the La Porte site is permitted during the following hours, in accordance with local guidelines:
- Monday through Saturday: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM
- Sundays: Limited hours may be used as needed to make up for weather delays

Community meeting recap—April 2026
At our recent meeting on April 21, 2026, we met with community members at the La Porte Civic Center. We shared datacenter project concepts through community boards highlighting datacenter design plans, energy, water, job & economic opportunities, and community investments.
