Introducing Jack Lim Chee Chek

Datacenter Technician

Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Employee since May 2021

Early days

“Jack” Lim Chee Chek was born and raised in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, along with his three elder siblings. His tech-savvy brother, who always let him play as Luigi in Super Mario Bros., also introduced him to the world of coding. During his school days, Jack was an avid participant in various extracurricular activities, with a particular love for coding. He also developed a keen interest in learning new languages and experimenting in the kitchen.

The path to technology

While pursuing his bachelor’s in IT, Jack began his training as an IT executive at Iverson Associates, a Microsoft Learn partner, and secured a full-time role after graduation. In just three years, he advanced to the role of senior executive and became a Microsoft Certified Trainer, allowing him to inspire a larger audience and affect more individuals in the tech field. In his role as a technical trainer, he developed and delivered IT courses, ensuring they met industry standards. This role further fueled his enthusiasm for the tech industry.

To fully immerse himself in the cloud infrastructure, Jack chose to join Microsoft as a datacenter technician. This role enabled him to explore the intricacies of datacenter operations, along with acquiring expertise in hardware, components, and operational procedures. Over the last three years, Jack has refined his skills and solidified his career goals within the tech sector.

Superpowers

Jack is self-motivated and possesses the superpower of resilience. Throughout his career, he has adapted to various roles and environments, consistently thriving despite changes and challenges. His journey from IT executive to technical trainer to datacenter technician highlights his ability to master different aspects of the tech industry.

Jack also did not confine himself to his technician role; instead, he actively pursued self-improvement. His ambition led him to participate in the Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) Career Experience Program as a Regional Mobilization Datacenter Project Manager—a 90-day immersive experience managing and supporting local datacenter operations.

Jack’s resilience is not just limited to his professional life; it extends to his personal experiences as well. He has lived in multiple cities across Malaysia, each transition enriching his perspective and enhancing his adaptability.

A day in the life

Jack begins his day by dropping off his children with the babysitter on his way to the datacenter. Upon arrival, he starts with a cup of coffee while checking his emails to stay updated on any overnight messages, considering Microsoft’s global operations and various time zones. He then attends a team sync-up meeting to outline the day’s tasks, with an emphasis on the “No One Gets Hurt” safety commitment. Following the morning meeting, he usually handles service capacity for customers. After work, he goes home to enjoy the rest of the day with his family.

Favorite childhood food

Jack has a deep appreciation for nasi lemak, a cherished Malaysian dish. He delights in its simplicity and rich flavors—crispy anchovies, toasted peanuts, boiled egg, spicy sambal, and crunchy cucumber slices, all complemented by aromatic coconut rice. During his school years, his mother often bought him nasi lemak wrapped in banana leaves after school. The blend of these ingredients evokes nostalgic memories of maternal affection and childhood.
