Bornasco datacenter construction update

Microsoft is developing a new datacenter in Bornasco (PV), Italy. The site is located on Via Olivetti (formerly Via Rimembranze), near La Fornace.

Why datacenters are needed

Datacenters provide the physical infrastructure for the technology we depend on at work and in our personal lives. Whenever you open an app on your phone, join a virtual class or meeting, snap and save photos, or play a game with your friend online, you’re using a datacenter. Local businesses, government, hospitals, and schools rely on datacenters every day to deliver goods and services.

Urban development work begins

On September 15, 2025, we began primary and secondary urban development activities at the site. This includes excavation, grading, and preparing the land for construction.

Site preparation and infrastructure

Following earlier soil remediation, current work includes installing utilities—water, sewer, electricity, telecommunications, and street lighting. We’re also building access roads and a public parking area to serve the site and the community. Additional steps include clearing vegetation, cleaning nearby waterways, and ensuring the land is safe and stable for future construction phases.

Work schedule

Urban development work takes place Monday through Friday, from 08:00 to 17:00.

Minimizing impact

We’re committed to reducing the impact of construction on the environment and surrounding community. Measures include:

  • Traffic management: Temporary signage and alternating one-way traffic on Via dei Pioppi and Via Olivetti.
  • Dust and noise control: Installing water lines and sprayers along internal roads to minimize dust.

Staying connected

We’ll share regular updates on the GSE website and on the Italy page of our Microsoft in your community blog.
