Microsoft invests in local programs that benefit people of all ages. In Loudoun and Prince William Counties, our collaborations are organized by our focus areas of Building Digital Skills, Enabling Sustainability, and Empowering Communities. The following program list contains a sample of the kinds of investments Microsoft makes on an annual basis.

Loudoun Freedom Center is dedicated to helping the next generation of young adults and families gain a renewed sense of meaning and pursuit of God and good in the world. It seeks to create a pipeline of certified IT personnel to enter and compete in every segment of the information technology field.

Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation, through its Information and Engineering Technologies (IET) division, equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the rapidly growing and high demand fields of IT and engineering technology.

• Programming for Produce is a hands-on STEM program from Rosie Riveters that teaches coding and applies it directly to the growth of plants and, more specifically, healthy food. In year one, fourth grade students focus on coding Adafruit Circuit Playground Express (CPX) microcontrollers using Microsoft MakeCode in order to create devices that monitor the amount of moisture in a plant’s soil; these devices then alert users when the plant needs to be watered.

Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) inspires, motivates, and engages people to protect, preserve, and restore wildlife habitat.

Loudoun Hunger Relief serves neighbors in need with nutritious food, education, and community partnerships. Ultimately, the goal of LHR is to provide support and assistance so that families can live in the community without a need for these services.

ChangeX International helps to create thriving communities everywhere by democratizing change, ensuring proven innovations and finance are accessible to everyone, everywhere. ChangeX is a community engagement platform that, with Microsoft’s support, has funded more than 500 groups in communities across Europe and the United States since 2015.

• Backpack Buddies Foundation of Loudoun, Inc. (BBFL) provides weekend meals to food insecure families throughout Loudoun County, VA. During COVID, remote school learning overwhelmed critical organizations that provide meals to underserved Loudoun residents. The organization provides a niche service of weekend meals, which schools are unable to provide.
