Introducing Laura Salinas de la Montaña

Early days
Laura was always attracted to technology and computers. Her parents helped her understand that she could do anything by working hard. Thanks to this, she studied Industrial Engineering and B.Eng Hons Mechatronics so that she could also have job options abroad.
The path to technology
For 11 years Laura worked as an Electrical Design Engineer and Electrical Project Manager, a period marked by moments of great intensity both from a human and professional point of view. These roles gave her a very structured way of working, with a strong adherence to procedures, a questioning attitude, and high safety standards.
Laura joined the datacenter industry in 2021, attracted by the similarities to her previous work experience and all that she could bring to the table. She discovered that Microsoft is not only focused on services, computers and gaming sectors, but also is building datacenters using a reliable industrial infrastructure. She did not hesitate to accept this challenge both personally and professionally.
Superpowers
Laura credits support from her colleagues and managers for allowing her to have a broad supervisory vision and to approach challenges from different angles for better decision making. Her dedication to work, attention to detail, and positivism are among her strong points. She loves to learn new things and to create processes that save time when working.
A day in the life
A typical day at work for Laura is full of challenges. Every day is different, working with different groups and in different locations. For that reason, she has a personal commitment to safety, not only individually but also collectively.
Laura is responsible for managing and reporting the commissioning process in her region. She is involved in site inspections, coordination meetings, issues management, development of commissioning procedures and standards, and in general any improvement process or lessons learned. Volunteer moments are also an important part of her work to introduce students to the STEM world and datacenter sector.
Favorite book
Several books have had a special impact on Laura’s life, but The Physician by Noah Gordon is one of her favorites.
