Vihti datacenter project updates

Datacenters provide the physical infrastructure for the technology we depend on at work and in our personal lives. Whenever you open an app on your phone, join a virtual classroom or meeting, snap and save photos, or play a game with your friends online, you are using a datacenter. Local businesses, government, hospitals, and schools rely on datacenters every day to deliver you goods and services.

Preconstruction work started at the Vihti datacenter site

In September, Microsoft started preconstruction work at its datacenter site in Vihti. The initial work will be undertaken by Destia and includes land clearance works, such as piling, excavation, quarry crushing and driving, and rock drilling.

Regular working hours are Monday to Friday 6.00-22.00, and if necessary Saturdays 07.00–18.00. Most of the noisy works will be carried out during the weekdays before 18.00.

Work times and phases

  • October to November: Building a new construction site road, transport of soil and quarry out of the site, drilling and excavation work, crushing work, and piling.
  • December to January: Transport of soil and quarry out of the plot, bored pile driving work, and construction of pile slabs.

Please see updated working times from Destia’s project website: Vihdin datakeskustontin esirakentaminen – Destia

Construction site traffic via a temporary road

The construction site connection will be used during November. Until its completion, construction site traffic will run along the temporary Rosti road. There will be continuous traffic control at the site until the construction site connection is completed.

In the early stages of the blasting work, traffic on Turuntie (Highway 1) will occasionally be stopped by traffic control on site. Stops of five to ten minutes may occur Monday to Thursday between 09.00–15.00.

Follow project progress

The progress of this initial phase of the project can be followed on Destia’s website. All site bulletins and a monthly summary of the site situation are published on the website.

The project team can also be contacted by email: vihtidc@destia.fi. Messages will be replied to as soon as possible, between the hours of 07.00–15.00 Monday to Friday.
