Early days

HP Singh was born and brought up in Panjab, the northern part of India. HP studied for a master’s degree at IIT Bombay, and then his construction job took him all across the country. HP finally settled in Bengaluru, where he has lived for the last 20 years.

The path to technology

HP has been in the construction industry most of his career, building everything from power plants to airports. His previous role was in procurement of construction and facilities management for factories, clean rooms, offices, and manufacturing lines. His current role is even more challenging and exciting with its sheer volume and fast pace.

Superpowers

HP likes to undertake things that are hard to do, which others don’t pick up, and that have a larger impact on the organization.

A day in the life

HP starts his day with a long walk. He is a morning person and his work begins with meetings sometimes as early as 5:30 AM. The day goes through with meetings mostly remotely, and discussions late till evening, ending with a short walk or watching Kabaddi on TV. HP usually reads a book before signing off the day, and currently is reading the poems by Shiv Batalvi, his favorite poet, in his mother tongue (Panjabi).

Favorite childhood food

Rajma chawal (beans curry with rice) is HP’s favorite food, but saag and makki roti (a dish of mustard leaves with maize flour bread) brings fond memories of sitting on the floor in the kitchen on wintery evenings and eating those with his brother.
