Opening doors to IT careers with Datacenter Academy scholarships at Northwest Vista College

As part of our commitment to help San Antonio residents access careers in the growing cloud computing and IT sector, Microsoft is offering scholarships for the Datacenter Academy at Northwest Vista College. We recently granted scholarships to 10 full-time and 20 part-time students, covering the cost of tuition, fees, and certifications for one semester of training at the Datacenter Academy. Upon completion of the scholarship term, students will have the opportunity to earn a certificate of completion, prepare for industry certification exams, and pursue a two-year associate of applied science degree.

Removing barriers to technical careers

The Datacenter Academy Scholarship program removes barriers to careers in the IT sector, with a special focus on students historically underrepresented in IT and STEM careers, including women and students of African American, Hispanic, and Indigenous backgrounds. Promoting a diverse workforce is a priority for Microsoft, explains Alex Icenogle, Microsoft Workforce Development Program Manager: “This partnership with Northwest Vista College will help create inclusive economic opportunities in San Antonio.”

Launched in Spring 2022, the Microsoft Datacenter Academy at Northwest Vista College offers a specialized curriculum tailored to large-scale IT environments, including hyperscale datacenters. Microsoft donated servers, laptops, and datacenter equipment to create a state-of-the-art datacenter lab at Northwest Vista College. In addition to hands-on training and a specialized curriculum, students have opportunities to prepare for careers through mentorships and work experience in Microsoft datacenters.

In a world increasingly reliant on cloud computing and big data, the Datacenter Academy Scholarship program offers a pathway to digital training and a career in the growing cloud computing and IT sectors.
