Introducing James Johnson IV
Datacenter Technician
Northern Virginia
Employee since 2024
Early days
James was born in Maryland and raised in Northern Virginia. Growing up, he enjoyed playing football, lacrosse, track/field, and video games. James only recently got into the technology industry and loves it so far. He previously worked in the retail sector for 11 years as a manager. James still lives in the NOVA area with his partner.
The path to technology
James had previously worked in management for a large department hardware retailer. He worked very long and inconsistent hours while in school to better his life, but the lessons he learned throughout the years succeeded in putting him in a better position. After years of being afraid of the technology industry, James decided to take a chance at the Northern Virginia Datacenter Academy. He started with his CompTIA ITF+ certification, which he passed on his first try. His goals in IT are to continue to gain knowledge in order to one day return to management in the same field. James is currently working on getting his CompTIA A+ certification.
Superpowers
James’ superpower is his ability to meet new people and be part of the team. Growing up, James always enjoyed being a part of the team. This has consistently been a benefit for him because he is able to get projects and tasks done.
A day in the life
James’ days consist of going into work and setting up his desk, and then checking emails and Teams messages. After that, he talks with his team and asks questions about any tickets that he might be unsure on. Everyone is always willing to help. James will then work on his tickets, continuing to ask questions and take notes when needed. “Having a growth mindset every day helps me stay positive and looking forward to each day,” James says.
Favorite childhood food
Brownies are James’ favorite food. He enjoys baking them and sharing with his friends and family.
