Generation Singapore prepares workers for the switch to technology careers
Generation Singapore’s #GetReadySG Train-and-Place Programme aims to empower individuals to pursue successful careers in the growing technology field. Together with Generation Singapore, Microsoft launched the first ever Microsoft Career Transition Scholarship Programme cohort in 2023 to help deserving individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds access the programme. The curriculum comprises a three-month career bootcamp that is crafted for those without a technical education or prior work experience in the technology industry. Graduates have the option to obtain Microsoft certification upon successful course completion.
The 31 learners in this cohort came from diverse backgrounds in sales, engineering, healthcare, the arts, customer service, and more. They were carefully selected through a rigorous screening process based on several criteria such as motivation and financial background. Through the scholarship provided by Microsoft, all learners received full funding for the course as well as holistic support and mentorship by industry experts. This pilot program’s goal was to reduce barriers to employment opportunities in the technology industry and to create opportunities for those that face obstacles during career transitions.
As one learner summarizes their experience, “I’m really thankful for the opportunity to be part of the GenSG cohort! Meeting new people from different walks of life has really broadened my horizons. The commitment to providing us with a comprehensive and valuable learning experience is evident and it has made a significant impact on my personal and professional growth. I am grateful for the guidance, support, and knowledge that the team has shared. The skills and insights I have gained during the programme have been invaluable and I am excited to apply them in my future endeavors!”
