Introducing Jamie Yeo Si Min
Logistics technician intern
Singapore
Employee since April 2023
Early days
Jamie was born in Singapore but was raised in Johor, Malaysia for a year due to the circumstances at that time. During those times, she frequently went in and out of the country for medical check-ups. Her biggest contributor to her childhood was her grandparents as they were the ones earnestly taking care of her while her parents were busy working to provide financial support for the family. It was tough at first, but it got better after she became a Singapore citizen and lived in Singapore ever since.
The path to technology
Jamie wanted to pursue further studies and try out working life. After completing her Higher National ITE Certificate in International Logistics at ITE College East and working full time and part time for one year, she decided to take on the path of work-study in logistics. She was chosen as an intern for Microsoft after passing an interview.
Even though her results back in school were not ideal and she was afraid, Jamie wanted to learn more, and being chosen for the internship was when she knew skills and knowledge can be slowly adapted with the right mindset.
Upon starting her internship, Jamie learned that Microsoft provides a wide range of career aspects. She was amazingly comfortable with the environment even though it is something vastly different from what she did in the past.
Superpowers
Jamie has always been compassionate toward people. When she sees someone having a dreadful day, she would always want to cheer them up as it saddens her to see people she cares about are upset. She always wishes she had the power to read people’s mind, so she can connect with people in a deeper level without the need to speak a lot in words.
A day in the life
As an intern, Jamie starts her day by attending a 5-to-15-minute handoff meeting at 9 AM, following up with checking emails, ticket queues, and chats to prepare for the day with her team. She assists with supporting daily tasks until lunch break. She takes this time to eat and relax her mind until lunch break is over, and then continues with whatever tasks are on hand until work ends for her at 5:30 PM. After she ends work, she has dinner and gets home to rest up for the day.
Favorite childhood food
Jamie’s favorite childhood food is waffles, a small but filling delicious food she loved since she was young. She would always get it after school when she was younger. She loves it when the waffle is served fresh and hot, crispy and having a soft texture with a kueh-like consistency. Waffles can be paired with different types of fillings and ingredients. Her ultimate favorite is still peanut butter waffles, so simple but so good.
