Partnering with Lions Club Wieringermeer and local schools to promote environmental sustainability in North Holland
Lions Clubs worldwide have a history of dedicating time and efforts to bettering their communities. With more than 1.4 million members around the globe and over 100 years of service history, the Lions Club organization strives to become the global leader in humanitarian service. In the Netherlands, the Lions Club Wieringermeer recently began an initiative to create greater awareness around energy saving efforts and environmental sustainability, specifically by engaging with local school students through field trips and projects.
In order to best engage students, Lions Club Wieringermeer provides a connection between local schools and environmental organizations, particularly those focused on water conservation and energy sustainability. Specifically, students participate in field trips to attain greater awareness of conservation and sustainability efforts, including visits to local sewage treatment plants and drinking water facilities. In addition to the environmental aspects of conservation, participants learn of the social and economic benefits associated with water conservation and renewable energy programs. Lions Club Wieringermeer partners with both primary and high schools, employing local news agencies to publicize efforts and results.
Microsoft provides grant to support conservation awareness
Microsoft awarded Lions Club Wieringermeer funding to help solidify its position as a steward of environmental conservation efforts in the community. Looking forward, Microsoft may utilize its own subject matter experts to provide perspectives on water conservation solutions and will further promote the efforts of the local Lions Club.
