Microsoft began constructing the Southwest Hortolândia datacenter in January 2024. The datacenter construction site is located on Estrada Municipal Pedrina Guilherme in Hortolândia, State of São Paulo.

Why datacenters are needed

Datacenters provide the physical infrastructure for the technology we depend on at work and in our personal lives. Whenever you open an app on your phone, join a virtual classroom or meeting, snap and save photos, or play a game with your friends online, you are using a datacenter. Local businesses, government, hospitals, and schools rely on datacenters every day to deliver goods and services to you.

Construction update March 2026

We are now in the final stage of construction, with completion expected in the second half of 2026.

The Afonso França team is primarily focused on technical installations inside the facility, while also carrying out final adjustments in both the internal and external areas.

Throughout this stage, we continue to work safely and efficiently, with a strong focus on minimizing impacts on the surrounding community.

Construction update—September 2025

Construction activities at the Southwest Hortolândia datacenter site continue to progress in alignment with local regulations. Our general contractor, Afonso França, follows the guidelines outlined in NBR 10.151:2019 and Municipal Law No. 873/2001 of Hortolândia.

Outdoor construction work is permitted during the hours between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM, with noise emission limits enforced. Certain specialized activities may operate under alternative schedules, subject to municipal authorization.

We remain committed to maintaining compliance with local ordinances while advancing construction safely and efficiently.

Construction timeline

Datacenter construction began in January 2024 and is estimated to be complete by the mid-year 2025. The general contractor Afonso França Construções e Comércio Ltda is permitted to work Monday through Friday 7-5pm during the week and the same hours for Saturday and Sunday as needed.

• Earthworks and concrete work to lay the building foundation through mid 2024
• Installation of metal walls, from March 2024 to mid-2024

Additionally, the following work is scheduled to begin later this year:

• Substation construction, from April 2024 to early 2025
• Wiring and systems installation, from August 2024 to early 2025

Together with our general contractor Afonso França Construções e Comércio Ltda, we will keep neighbors informed in advance of construction work.
