Protecting forest in Uusimaa with the Finnish National Heritage Foundation

Microsoft protects over 300 hectares of forest in Uusimaa in cooperation with the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation
With Microsoft’s donation, the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation will protect more than 300 hectares of forest areas in Espoo, Kirkkonummi, and Vihti. The donation enables the purchase of the forest areas, and the Foundation will take care of their long-term management and protection.
The areas to be protected have diverse natural value. Kauhala in Kirkkonummi is one of Uusimaa’s most valuable unprotected forest areas; in Espoo, Luukki’s Kaurasuo complements the natural forest landscape of Nuuksio; and the varied terrain of Pääkslahti in Vihti provides a habitat for hundreds of endangered species.
According to Microsoft Finland’s Managing Director, Teemu Vidgren, the project is particularly meaningful for Microsoft.
“Personally, I feel great pride that we can help safeguard Finnish forest areas for future generations. The forest is a place where everyday life quiets down and thoughts become clear. The expertise of the Natural Heritage Foundation ensures that these forest areas are protected responsibly and for the long term,” Vidgren says.
