Open letter to Pecos and Reeves County

Pecos, Texas sign

To the Pecos and Reeves County community,

Microsoft has been part of Texas for more than 20 years, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to become part of Reeves County.

Across the state, our investments have helped strengthen local economies and prepare people for careers in technology. Through our San Antonio datacenter operations, workforce development programs, community investments, and nonprofit partnerships, we have:

  • Generated more than $4 billion in economic activity across Texas.
  • Supported thousands of jobs across the state.
  • Trained more than 450 students through Datacenter Academy programs.
  • Helped create more than 1,100 jobs through workforce development initiatives.
  • Contributed more than $114 million in charitable giving and technology donations in Texas in FY24.

Today, we are announcing plans to build new datacenters outside of Pecos to support the technology people rely on every day, from schools and hospitals to businesses and public services. But this investment is about more than technology. It’s about building a long-term relationship with the community.

We are committed to being a good neighbor. That means creating local jobs—thousands during construction and hundreds of long-term operational roles once the campus is running—and supporting education and workforce training along the way. Just as we have in San Antonio, we will contribute to the local economy in Pecos and Reeves County. It also means being thoughtful about how we build and operate, minimizing water use with closed-loop cooling systems, paying for the power our datacenters consume so your energy bills are not affected, and supporting local services that will help the community thrive.

We know that being a good neighbor isn’t something you say—it’s something you prove over time. That’s why we’re committed to listening, being transparent, and staying engaged as our plans move forward.

In the coming months, we plan to build relationships with the people and organizations that make Pecos and Reeves County strong.

  • We will meet with community leaders, school administrators, and educators to explore opportunities that support STEM education.
  • We also plan to engage with nonprofit organizations to better understand local priorities and identify ways Microsoft can be a meaningful partner.
  • Because this project will create new opportunities, we will work to bring digital and skilled trades workforce programs to help residents prepare for construction and technology careers.

We’re excited about what lies ahead and look forward to becoming part of the Reeves County community.
