Mexico community investments
Microsoft datacenters are part of the backbone of Mexico’s digital ecosystem. They empower government, businesses, and wider society to function and innovate—supporting each one of us with the critical infrastructure we have come to rely on. Microsoft is a major investor in Mexico’s AI and network infrastructure, meeting the growing demand for digital services while helping Mexico on its decarbonization journey.
Our datacenters are essential to modern life—creating quality construction and operation jobs, supporting STEM skilling and education, and fostering meaningful community partnerships. We are committed to being a good neighbor that contributes to a sustainable future, promoting prosperity and well-being, while addressing societal challenges through our investments.

Building digital skills
Microsoft believes everyone should have access to the skills, technology, and opportunity they need to succeed in a changing economy.
Construyendo y Creciendo offers quality formal education to construction workers, their families, and the broader community for personal and professional development that improves their quality of life and offers a positive social change in the community. It does this through primary and secondary education courses licensed by state and federal authorities; skills-based courses that promote job skills, use of ICTs, trades, soft skills, and finance; and health education courses aimed at basic health literacy and prevention.
- The CyC Mobile Classroom offers primary and secondary education as well as technical certifications and literacy courses to construction workers and their families. With support from Microsoft, the program started with mobile classrooms at CyC’s Queretaro construction sites and has expanded into two neighborhoods of Querétaro and the town of Esperanza, municipality of Colón. Additionally, in the municipalities of Colón and Marques, an itinerant instructor will visit schools and organizations to promote the knowledge and development of technological skills including AI.
Enabling sustainability
Climate change requires swift, collective action and technological innovation. We are committed to meeting our own goals while helping communities to do the same.
Nación Verde is driven by a deep passion for bringing environmental justice to Mexico’s indigenous communities. Every tree it has planted in projects over the years represents much more than just a tangible action; it is a symbol of hope and a commitment to the future of our planet and generations to come.
- The Plaza Galeras rehabilitation project, financed by Microsoft and designed by Nación Verde’s team of architects, aims to revitalize the town’s main square. The original plan included improving planters, replacing vegetation with native adult trees and shrubs, installing new benches, and creating infiltration drains that allow rainwater to flow into the subsoil and avoid runoff. Based on community feedback, the project scope has expanded to include creation of bathrooms and a playground for children, improvement of the electrical grid for adequate night lighting, extension of the square to protect a significant tree and redesign traffic flow, and rehabilitation of the sidewalk for merchant stalls.
- The Querétaro tree planting project, supported by Microsoft and the International Conservation Foundation (ICF), brings positive environmental and social impact to Querétaro. As part of the local GIVE campaign, Nación Verde is building a small “edible forest” at the Casa Hogar Pan de Vida shelter. Nación Verde has also been planting fruit trees in schools throughout Querétaro. In addition to providing shade to school yards, reducing air pollution, and increasing access to green space, these participatory plantings connect students with nature, create opportunities to spend more time outdoors, and train community members to help care for trees. Additionally, Wildfire Resiliency workshops with the Marques and Colon communities teach people how to mitigate fire risks and how to act in case a fire occurs.
Empowering communities
Microsoft is committed to strengthening communities and empowering the organizations that help them thrive. Whether affected by a recent emergency or decades of challenges, we use data, technology, and strategic investments to restore and support them for future generations.
Causas para la Transformación, A.C. strengthens the cybersecurity ecosystem in Mexico and Latin America.
- The Querétaro cybersecurity and AI trainings project, supported by Microsoft, is educating 1,200 students and 120 teachers at schools in El Marques and Colon about cybersecurity and AI. The project includes a theatrical play, “Surviving Cyberspace,” which shows how a young kid who wants to become a social media influencer faces different challenges (online risks) to achieve that goal. After each session, a discussion between students and the actors (facilitators) builds understanding. The project also provides a conference on online risks and AI to parents and teachers and shares online learning materials with teachers on how to use generative AI in the education process.
- Entrepreneurship Training Ciudad Colon provided courses for Colon entrepreneurship trainers and supported a live LinkedIn Learning entrepreneurship course as a practical training for the trainers during the Colon entrepreneurship fair. The courses took place in partnership with the Construyendo y Creciendo mobile classroom. The courses covered the use of Microsoft Office desktop and mobile versions, entrepreneurship, how to access Microsoft Learning resources, LinkedIn basics, and cybersecurity for end users.
