Lévis datacentre project updates

Microsoft began construction of the first phase of the Lévis datacentre in April 2024. The datacentre construction site is located in the Charny neighborhood of Lévis, Quebec, Canada.
Why datacentres are needed
Datacentres provide the physical infrastructure for the technology we depend on at work and in our personal lives. Whenever you open an app on your phone, join a virtual classroom or meeting, snap and save photos, or play a game with your friends online, you are using a datacentre. Local businesses, government, hospitals, and schools rely on datacentres every day to deliver goods and services to you.
Construction updates
July 2025
Construction teams have erected the steel structure of the building and are continuing with the installation of the roof and building envelope. In June and July, generators and other large equipment were delivered to the site. In August, soil improvement activities will begin and will last for 4 to 5 months. During this time, there will be an increase in the number of trucks going to and from the site to replace the soil. The general contractor, Pomerleau, will ensure that street cleaning is increased as needed.
Tests on the generators, which are necessary to ensure their proper operation, will take place this fall. Datacenters use fossil fuel generators for backup power in case of a rare emergency. This work will comply with all the regulations in force, in particular with noise standards. The general contractor will share more details when the timeline for this work becomes clearer.
Pile driving and blasting operations related to the construction of the electrical substation have been delayed. We will provide additional information on pile driving and blasting dates and times as they are finalized.
November 2024
Teams began erecting the steel structure on the Lévis site. These operations will take several months to complete.
August 2024
Rock excavation is slated to conclude at the end of August. Neighbors will be informed should the schedule change.
April, 2024
On May 13 we will begin rock excavation using a blasting technique. For more information on blasting, please contact Hardroc Blasting, Inc., by phone at: 418-834-4113 or via Fax: 418-834-0866.
March, 2024
Datacentre construction will begin on April 15, 2024, and we are currently preparing the site for construction, demolishing existing structures, grading, and soil remediation.
We will keep neighbors informed in advance of construction work.
