Introducing Milatu Cholil

Datacenter Inventory and Asset Technician

Jakarta, Indonesia

Employee since May 2023

Early days

Milatu, whose nickname is Mila, was born and raised in Bogor, a city in the West Java province of Indonesia. Since she was a kid, her father always had her contribute to his activities or hobbies, especially when it comes to technology. Her father would always ask her to join him to go to the ATM to withdraw cash. Back then, he would guide her through the flow of using the machine. That was the first lesson Mila had that made her think about technology in a different way, and her interest slowly built since that time.

The path to technology

After graduating, Mila started in the IT field, in a service desk and technical support role where she learned about confidence by communicating things more with people. Then she spent a long time in the logistics field after that. Even though the career she had was not perfectly aligned with her major and educational background, she realized she should focus more on the learning process and the outcome while always trying to learn every day. After some years, Mila decided to pursue a specialized career path in the logistics field and joined Microsoft as a Datacenter Inventory & Asset Technician. Mila says having a career at Microsoft, “is not like having a job, but more like having great opportunities and experience while collaborating with awesome professionals. I hope I can contribute more in the future!”

Superpowers

Mila’s superpowers are reliability and being a hard worker. Since she was 13, Mila has been independently mature. While doing her job or helping someone, she always gives her best effort—not pushing herself too hard, but letting herself enjoy every moment. In that way, she can feel at ease.

A day in the life

Mila checks her calendar the day before she goes to work to understand what she needs to prepare for. Then she tries to eat before starting her day. Before work, she checks her emails to sync everything up. Microsoft is working globally, so there are time differences, and it is best to keep up to date by syncing everything beforehand. Mila likes making plans and also being dynamic. Logistics always has something new for her—new items, new devices, new shipments.

Favorite childhood food

Rawon—Indonesian beef soup

Mila’s favorite childhood food is called rawon, which is from the same place her parents are from, East Java. Rawon utilizes the black keluak nut as the main seasoning, which gives a dark color and nutty flavor to the soup. It is best to add sambal (Indonesian chili paste) that gives a hot sensation while eating it with the sprouts. Rawon usually comes with a salted duck egg. Mila remembers her mom would cook this whenever there was a special day, and they would usually have this as a main dish when celebrating the Eid Day.
