Introducing Bee Choo Lim

Operations Program Director

Singapore

Employee since 2000

Early days

Bee Choo was introduced to her first computer in primary school during a year-end extra-curriculum activity. In secondary school, she got a different computer and needed to share it with her three siblings. Computer studies were not her major in university, but she decided after graduation to make her career in the IT industry. Starting from ground level in her first job as consultant with a local IT company, Bee Choo then worked on network support for a few years, before joining Microsoft, where she is now.

The path to technology

In 2000, Bee Choo was hired by Microsoft as an IT Account Manager in the Asia-Pacific region. For the next 22 years, she was in several roles, some as individual contributor, some as a people manager. Microsoft allowed her to grow her career that spanned across Singapore, Beijing, and Hong Kong. She often gets together with former colleagues to have a cup of coffee and to laugh over stories from the “good old days”. Bee Choo says, “I’m glad that we are all together for the next wave of datacenter evolution in Microsoft.”

Superpowers

Bee Choo keeps her calendar open for employees who want to talk to her, from the external interviewees to new and existing employees. Her guess is that they are surprised at her long tenure in Microsoft and want to hear her perspective.

A day in the life

Bee Choo has a team of program managers who are subject matter experts in their disciplines. Her key role is to make sure they are able to perform their role and to help them clear any roadblocks in their programs. As they are supporting many pillars in datacenter operations, she and the team have to keep themselves informed and up-to-date at all times. Bee Choo makes sure to spend time with her business partners in the region, in other regions, and with the corporate teams, and to allow her team to grow professionally in their careers.

Favorite childhood food

Soy sauce chicken rice

Bee Choo’s favorite comfort food, it reminds her of the days her late father brought the family out for meals. She still goes to the same place for her soy sauce chicken rice.
