Cheyenne datacenter expansion update

Project overview
Microsoft is planning to expand its datacenter footprint in Cheyenne.
In line with Microsoft’s Datacenter Community Pledge, our work follows the Community-First Infrastructure approach, reflecting a long term commitment to responsibility, transparency, and partnership with the communities where our datacenters operate.
Why datacenters are needed
Datacenters provide the physical infrastructure for the technology we depend on at work and in our personal lives. Whenever you open an app on your phone, join a virtual classroom or meeting, snap and save photos, or play a game with your friends online, you are using a datacenter. Local businesses, government, hospitals, and schools rely on datacenters every day to deliver goods and services to you.
Investing in cloud infrastructure in Wyoming supports long-term digital growth and helps ensure that essential online services remain reliable and accessible.
Cheyenne expansion community information session update
At our recent information session on May 28, 2026, we met with community members at the Laramie County Community College Flex Tech Building in Cheyenne, WA. We shared datacenter project information through community boards and in-person conversations, highlighting datacenter design plans, energy, water, job & economic opportunities, and community investments. Thank you to everyone who participated. If you were not able to attend, we have posted a link to view the boards that we shared.
Cheyenne expansion update – May 2026
Microsoft has submitted applications with the City of Cheyenne for two additional datacenter expansion areas: a 385 acre site east of College Drive near Cheyenne Business Parkway, and an approximately 35 acre site South of Happy Jack Road near North Range Business Park.
Along with our most recent expansion announcement in April, these applications represent the next step in Microsoft’s long-term commitment to Cheyenne and are guided by our Community-First Infrastructure approach—grounded in responsible growth, partnership with local communities, and a focus on creating enduring economic and social benefits, including job creation and contributions to the local tax base.
