Inspiring creativity and confidence: Microsoft and Girls Inc. explore AI at RockIT Into The Future
The RockIT Into The Future Science Festival in San Antonio is a vibrant, community-driven event that brings participants and families together to explore science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on experiences. At this annual celebration, more than 1,200 attendees came together to discover new ideas, build skills, and imagine what’s possible.
Microsoft was proud to support Girls Inc. of San Antonio at this year’s festival, helping to create an engaging space where participants could explore emerging technologies in a fun, accessible, and responsible way.
As part of the event, Microsoft employees hosted interactive AI workshops designed to spark creativity and build confidence. During these sessions, participants were introduced to AI image creation tools through Copilot and learned how to turn their ideas into clear, effective prompts. By experimenting, refining their inputs, and seeing their concepts come to life, participants developed skills that are increasingly valuable across both education and future careers.
The workshops culminated in a unique, real-world design experience. Participants used Copilot to create original artwork for submissions to Microsoft’s 2026 San Antonio Fiesta medal. Drawing inspiration from the city’s culture, traditions, and community pride, participants explored how AI can serve as a creative partner—enhancing imagination while keeping human ideas at the center of the process, much like other student-led Microsoft AI design initiatives in San Antonio.
One standout moment from the festival was the selection of the winning design, created by seventh-grade student Ella. Her work reflected both creativity and confidence, showcasing how young people can use technology to express their perspectives and contribute to meaningful community traditions.
Microsoft’s participation in RockIT Into The Future reflects a continued commitment to investing in technical skilling, creativity, and inclusive opportunities for young people in San Antonio. By blending community traditions with emerging technology, the festival offered participants a powerful reminder: they are not just learners of technology—they are creators, innovators, and builders of what’s next.
