Celebrating 10 years in Boydton, Virginia

On August 27, 2020,  Microsoft marked 10 years of operating a datacenter in Boydton, Virginia. In addition to establishing a hyperscale datacenter and bringing high-tech jobs to the region, Microsoft has had an impact on communities across Southern Virginia via the Datacenter Community Development initiative and Microsoft TechSpark program. More than 55 projects have been supported across local community organizations.

Projects sponsored include:

  • Free public Wi-Fi in the towns of Boydton and Clarksville.
  • Workforce Development collaboration with the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center and Southside Virginia Community College, including the donation of more than a million dollars in hardware and hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships since the program began.
  • ChangeX Southern Virginia Community Challenge, which has supported dozens of teams for community-led projects including seven Bee Friendly Farming projects and three community gardens. These projects and others help address food insecurity across Mecklenburg County. Learn about community programs on the Southern Virginia Community Challenge webpage

Microsoft is grateful for the community partnerships across Southern Virginia and helping the region realize its full potential.
