An update on Microsoft’s plans in the Village of Sturtevant

Microsoft is considering the next phase of our investment in Racine County. We have purchased land previously owned by UNFI, and we are evaluating parcels currently controlled by the Village of Mount Pleasant and Foxconn.
After UNFI announced its decision to relocate, we began to consider how we could adapt the existing warehouse for use as a datacenter. In partnership with the Village, we would also like to pursue the opportunity to develop a datacenter on the property south of UNFI in the future.
In advance of our purchase, we reached out to the Village of Sturtevant to start the process of evaluation for this future development. The Village is aware that Microsoft is evaluating potential use of the site adjacent to our existing campus and is in early discussions with the company. This work remains at an early stage, and no final decisions have been made about the project’s scope, design, or timing. We can, however, make a clear commitment to the process. Any proposed development would proceed through the Village’s public and transparent review and comply with its zoning, site-plan, and permitting requirements.
The project would be guided by Microsoft’s Community-First AI Infrastructure initiative and its five commitments to the communities where we build and operate datacenters:
- We will pay our way so that our datacenters do not increase local electricity prices.
- We will minimize our water use and replenish more water than we consume.
- We will create jobs and economic opportunities for local residents.
- We will add to the tax base that supports local schools, public safety, parks, libraries, and other essential services.
- We will strengthen the community through investments in local organizations, education, and AI skills.
We have already begun putting these commitments into practice in Racine County, including investments that directly and indirectly benefit Sturtevant: participating as a sponsor of Sturtevant’s 3rd of July Fireworks show, providing Phase 1 funding for Root Pike Watershed Initiative Network’s Kirkorian Park wetland restoration project, the implementation of two grant funds: Equity Through Technology & Essential Supports in collaboration with the United Way of Racine County. A potential expansion would deepen that commitment and could generate substantial new revenue for the Village and County subject to further planning and review.
