Huntingwood datacentre project overview

Microsoft Datacentre (Australia) Pty Limited (“Microsoft”) is proposing the development of a new datacentre at Huntingwood in Western Sydney.

Datacentres provide the digital infrastructure that supports cloud computing, online services, artificial intelligence (AI), government services, businesses, schools, and healthcare providers. They enable the storage, processing, and delivery of data used every day by people and organisations across Australia.

Microsoft is investing in datacentre infrastructure in Australia to help meet growing demand for cloud and AI services while supporting Australia’s digital economy.

About the project

The proposed Huntingwood datacentre forms part of Microsoft’s broader investment in digital infrastructure across Australia.

The facility has been designed to support cloud and AI services while meeting applicable planning, environmental, and regulatory requirements. As with all Microsoft datacentres, the project will be subject to applicable assessment and approval processes at both state and federal levels.

Environmental assessment and approvals

NSW planning approval

The Huntingwood datacentre is being assessed through the New South Wales planning system as a State Significant Development (SSD).

Project information, technical studies, planning documentation, and assessment materials can be viewed via the NSW Government Planning Portal: Honeman Close Data Centre | Planning Portal – Department of Planning and Environment.
