Celebrating completion of a new AI-focused datacenter in Busan

On September 23, 2024, Microsoft and the city of Busan unveiled the newly constructed Miumsandan Datacenter, the second Microsoft datacenter in Busan’s International Industrial Logistics City, Gangseo-gu. This new datacenter, larger than the first facility completed in 2020, is designed to support AI-powered cloud services across the Asia-Pacific region.

Partnering to establish Busan as a global innovation hub

Over 100 prominent figures gathered to celebrate the newly constructed datacenter, including Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon, National Assembly representative Kim Do-eup, Gangseo District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon, Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority Director Kim Ki-young, and representatives of state energy provider KEPCO, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE), and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency. Together, these stakeholders have been instrumental in supporting datacenter development in the region. For example, Microsoft partnered with Busan City, MOTIE, KEPCO, and the National Heritage Administration to ensure a stable power supply for the datacenter.

Investing in the Busan community

Beyond digital infrastructure, Microsoft is investing in the local community through its Datacenter Community Pledge. In addition to creating local jobs, sustainability is central to the Microsoft commitment to datacenter

The Miumsandan Datacenter establishes Busan as a center for digital technology in the region. Busan Mayor Park Heong Joon lauded the datacenter, saying: “Microsoft’s investment aligns with our vision of making Busan a global hub for technology and innovation.
