New Albany datacenter construction update
Microsoft is building a datacenter in New Albany, Ohio.
Why datacenters are needed
Datacenters provide the physical infrastructure for the technology we depend on at work and in our personal lives. Whenever you open an app on your phone, join a virtual classroom or meeting, snap and save photos, or play a game with your friends online, you are using a datacenter. Local businesses, government, hospitals, and schools rely on datacenters every day to deliver goods and services to you.
November/December Construction Update
Ames Construction began clearing the area in late October. Installation of silt fences to protect the wetlands began in November.
Job site safety will be enhanced with the installation of chain-link fences.
Outlook into December
Increased truck traffic is expected while materials are delivered to build a construction access road to the site. Temporary travel disruptions will occur when the connection between the access road and Beech Road is constructed. Ames Construction is coordinating details and will provide advance notice as information becomes available.
Travelers in the area will receive several days’ notice before Beech Road is reduced to one lane while crews connect the access road. Flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic. The disruption is anticipated to last no more than three days during daylight hours only. Once complete, Ames signage will be visible from Beech Road.
A drainage pipe will be installed to manage water flow around the datacenter, ensuring efficient and sustainable water management.
Community Engagement
In November, Microsoft and Ames Construction team members hosted two coffee meet-and-greets with neighbors of the New Albany location. During this event, the project team shared contact information and addressed community questions. They also met with city staff to strengthen collaboration.
