Hansen Farm datacenter construction update
Microsoft is building a datacenter on Hansen Farm Road located in Manassas, Virginia. Construction is expected to continue for 18-24 months.
Why datacenters are needed
Datacenters provide the physical infrastructure for the technology we depend on at work and in our personal lives. Whenever you open an app on your phone, join a virtual classroom or meeting, snap and save photos, or play a game with your friends online, you are using a datacenter. Local businesses, government, hospitals, and schools rely on datacenters every day to deliver goods and services to you.
January 2025 – Construction update
Our project team is working in compliance with Prince William county’s noise ordinance and operates within the county’s permitted work hours of 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM Monday through Friday; and 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
On the South end of the project, site work including rock drilling, rock processing, and rock removal will continue through March 2025. On the North End of the project, steel erection has started with concrete operations to follow. Construction trailers will be placed on the southwest corner of the property in early 2025. Building enclosure will be complete in the Summer of 2025.
September 2024 – Construction update
Datacenter construction began in May 2024. The general contractor, Clark Technologies, a division of Clark Construction, is preparing the site by excavating and crushing rock. In some cases, this involves controlled rock fracturing in the early afternoon to break apart larger rocks. Early earthworks construction will continue through Fall 2024.
In adherence to Prince William County’s noise ordinance, Clark Technologies operates within the County’s permitted work hours of 7 AM to 10 PM (Mon-Fri) and 9 AM to 10 PM (Sat, Sun, and holidays). Together with our general contractor, Clark Technologies, we will keep neighbors informed of construction activities.
