Microsoft began constructing the Sumaré East datacenter in July 2023. The datacenter construction site is located on Estrada Municipal Valencio Calegari in Sumaré, State of São Paulo.

Why datacenters are needed

Datacenters provide the physical infrastructure for the technology we depend on at work and in our personal lives. Whenever you open an app on your phone, join a virtual classroom or meeting, snap and save photos, or play a game with your friends online, you are using a datacenter. Local businesses, government, hospitals, and schools rely on datacenters every day to deliver goods and services to you.

Construction update March 2026

We are now in the final stage of construction, with completion expected in the second half of 2026.

Work is currently focused on completing the final activities in the external areas of the datacenter. Inside the facility, teams are continuing technical installations, which will remain the primary focus through the end of the project.

Throughout these final phases, we are working carefully to minimize any impact on the surrounding community and to maintain a safe environment for everyone on site.

Construction update—September 2025

Construction activities at the Sumaré East datacenter site continue to progress in alignment with local regulations. Our general contractor, Racional, follows the guidelines outlined in NBR 10.151:2019 and Municipal Law No. 873/2001 of the neighboring city of Hortolândia.

Outdoor civil construction work is permitted during hours between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM, with noise emission limits enforced. Certain specialized activities may operate under alternative schedules, subject to municipal authorization.

We remain committed to maintaining compliance with local ordinances while advancing construction safely and efficiently.

Construction update 4 June 2025

The general contractor Racional carries out most of its activities from Monday to Saturday, from 7am to 7pm, occasionally working on Sundays on internal activities with less impact or until 10pm during the week. Racional is currently engaged in the following activities:

• Site preparation: mostly completed.
• Walls raised and covered: mostly completed.
• Internal installations: under development, expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.
• Substation: mostly completed.
• Definitive gatehouse: expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.
• Offsite activities: under development, expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.

Construction timeline

Datacenter construction began in July 2023 and is estimated to be complete in early 2028. The general contractor Racional is permitted to work Monday through Friday from 7am until 5pm and Saturdays from 7am until 2pm. Infrequently, teams may need to work until 10pm. Racional is currently engaged in the following activities:

• Installation of metal structure and walls, from September 2023 to mid 2024
• Substation construction, from October 2023 to late 2024
