Northwest Hortolândia datacenter construction update

Microsoft began constructing the Northwest Hortolândia datacenter in January 2024. The datacenter construction site is located at Av. Thereza Ana Cecon Breda and R. Uirapuru in Hortolândia, State of São Paulo.

Why datacenters are needed

Datacenters provide the physical infrastructure for the technology we depend on at work and in our personal lives. Whenever you open an app on your phone, join a virtual classroom or meeting, snap and save photos, or play a game with your friends online, you are using a datacenter. Local businesses, government, hospitals, and schools rely on datacenters every day to deliver goods and services to you.

Construction timeline

Datacenter construction began in January 2024 and is estimated to be complete by the beginning of March 2026. The general contractor Racional is permitted to work Monday through Saturday 7:30am – 5pm and is currently engaged in the following activities:

  • Earthworks, from January 2024 to April 2024
  • Concrete work to lay the building foundation and installation of metal structure and walls, from February 2024 to late 2024

Additionally, the following work is scheduled to begin later this year:

  • Substation construction, from April 2024 to mid 2025
  • Wiring and systems installation, from October 2024 to late 2025

Together with our general contractor Racional, we will keep neighbors informed in advance of construction work.
