Microsoft invests in local programs that benefit people of all ages. In Australia, our collaborations are organized by our focus areas of Building Digital Skills, Enabling Sustainability, and Empowering Communities. The following program list contains a sample of the investments Microsoft makes on an annual basis.

Digitale vaardigheden ontwikkelen

Microsoft believes everyone should have access to the skills, technology, and opportunity they need to succeed in a changing economy.   Indigital  is an Indigenous owned profit-for-purpose company creating a culturally diverse and inclusive digital future for all. It does this by building cultural connection and digital capability in critical technologies. Indigital uses digital technologies—like AI, augmented or mixed realities—as a pathway to learning Indigenous heritage, and it uses First Nations’ culture to teach digital skills as a pathway to the future of work.

• Programma Indigitaal voor scholen is een inclusief programma voor digitale vaardigheden voor inheemse en niet-inheemse kinderen om in contact te komen met en te leren van ouderen over culturele kennis, geschiedenis en taal, terwijl ze digitale vaardigheden leren in geavanceerde technologieën zoals augmented reality, coderen en Minecraft: Education Edition. Leerlingen brengen het geleerde vervolgens tot leven in een virtueel 3D-ontwerpproject met technologieën als AR en Minecraft. Door middel van de acht aan het leerplan gekoppelde workshops voegen ouderen, lokale docenten en Microsoft culturele kennis en digitale hulpmiddelen samen voor de jeugd van tegenwoordig. Het programma liep op 30 scholen in Western Sydney en bereikte meer dan 500 leerlingen en 90 leerkrachten. Het werd ook uitgebreid naar 5 lokale scholen in Western Melbourne.
• InDigital Minecraft Onderwijs Uitdaging, gebaseerd op het Nationale NAIDOC-thema, nodigde inheemse en niet-inheemse studenten uit om hun lokale Aboriginal en Torres Strait Islander culturele kennis, geschiedenis en talen te ontdekken en verkennen met behulp van Minecraft: Education Edition.

  Australian Business and Community Network  is a group of almost 200 low socio-economic status schools and over 50 leading businesses and organisations, working together to address educational disadvantage through structured workplace mentoring and business/school partnerships. Its corporate mentors support the development of students’ skills and mindsets, confidence, and aspiration, so they can achieve more than they thought was possible.

• Tech Vaardigheden Carrière Expo helpt kansarme studenten in Western Sydney en Western Melbourne een beter begrip te krijgen van technologie en carrières in de technologiesector. Door middel van loopbaancoaching en mentorschap met meerdere partners uit de industrie worden studenten ondergedompeld in bèta/technisch leren en hoe deze vaardigheden verband houden met een loopbaan in de technologiesector.

Climate change requires swift, collective action and technological innovation. We are committed to meeting our own goals while helping communities to do the same.   One Tree Planted  is a nonprofit organization focused on global reforestation. Since 2014, it has planted over 92.7 million trees in more than 80 countries across the globe since 2014. In 2022, it more than doubled its impact from 2021—with 52.7 million trees! The organization wants to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees. Together we can restore forests, create habitat for biodiversity, and make a positive social impact around the world.

• Het initiatief Cool Streets Hebersham werkte samen met de lokale overheid en bewoners om medewerkers van het Microsoft-datacenter 400 bomen te laten planten in de straten van Hebersham in Western Sydney. De boomsoorten waren onder andere Red Maple, Brush Box, Tulip Tree en nog veel meer. Hebersham is een van de meest etnisch diverse gemeenschappen in Sydney en heeft een hoog percentage bewoners uit huishoudens met een laag inkomen, die zeer kwetsbaar zijn voor de gezondheids- en economische gevolgen van toenemende hitte. Het planten van meer bomen in het gebied zal de gezondheid en het welzijn van de bevolking ondersteunen en hun kwetsbaarheid voor zomerse hitte en hittegolven verminderen.

Empowerment van gemeenschappen

• Kemps Creek Connection with Country is a Microsoft collaboration with Indigital and Dharug Nation Traditional Custodians to reflect Connection with Country at our Kemps Creek datacenter. Working together with the Dharug people—the Traditional Custodians of the land hosting our Kemps Creek datacentre—the collaboration has shaped the site’s exterior artwork and landscape design in a way that supports cultural connection and inclusion. Through the process, Indigital trained a machine learning algorithm using traditional imagery to understand interpretations of the Dharug Nation’s resilience. The algorithm created culturally recognised patterns and imagery that will be reflected in the site’s exterior artwork and landscape design. By protecting, preserving, and honoring the Dharug heritage we can foster the sort of inclusive and respectful environment that allows us to reimagine a brighter future for all of us.

  Sydney Zoo  was founded in 2015 with an aim to create amazing experiences for the local and international community by introducing them to a range of animal species from all over the world, while also educating on animal welfare and conservation. Embracing advanced technology and innovation to improve animal welfare, visitor engagement, and education, Sydney Zoo is home to a wide range of exotic and native species. With clever habitat design, it provides an experience that is more immersive and engaging than traditional zoos. Sydney Zoo is home to over 4,000 animals, Australia’s largest Reptile and Nocturnal House, and an aquarium.

• Zorg voor het land Bescherming van Kutukulung bracht opvoeders van de Sydney Zoo en Dharug-oudsten samen om te leren over de culturele banden met land, water en dieren en hoe Country duizenden jaren lang duurzaam werd beheerd. Meer dan 10 basisscholen en 700 schoolkinderen in de regio Western Sydney namen deel aan het programma. Leerlingen konden een inheemse bush tucker tuin verkennen, leren over de planten en hun gebruik, zich bezighouden met traditionele gereedschappen, wapens en middelen, en Kutukulung, de langnek schildpad, ontmoeten door middel van een reeks workshops voor leerlingen in de Sydney Zoo. Deze kennis en dans werden aangeleerd tijdens workshops in de dierentuin van Sydney om de gemeenschap van Western Sydney te inspireren tot milieubeheer.

  Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation  was founded by esteemed Aboriginal Elders from Western Sydney. Its purpose is to create a welcoming environment where individuals and families can find support and connections to services that will help them heal from the past and nurture a strong sense of confidence and pride for the future.

• We zijn vereerd dat we samenwerken met Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation om lokale Aboriginal families te steunen die in de buurt wonen van waar we onze datacenters beheren. Tijdens de pandemie werden fondsen gebruikt om extra personeel aan te nemen ter ondersteuning van hun diensten en een veilige omgeving voor de gemeenschap. We blijven hun diensten en initiatieven steunen, zoals bijeenkomsten van familiegroepen, een huiswerkclub, een mama- en bubsgroep en een jeugdgroep voor jonge First Australians om contact te maken met hun cultuur.
