Park Royal datacentre project overview

Microsoft will begin construction for the Park Royal datacentre in the first half of 2023. The datacentre construction site is in West London in the United Kingdom.

Why datacentres are needed

Datacentres provide the physical infrastructure for the technology we depend on at work and in our personal lives. Whenever you open an app on your phone, join a virtual classroom or meeting, snap and save photos, or play a game with your friends online, you are using a datacentre. Local businesses, government, hospitals, and schools rely on datacentres every day to deliver goods and services to you.

Construction timeline

In December 2020, alongside with our developer, Goodman, we received planning permission to build a datacentre in West London. Our general contractor, Mace, will soon prepare the area for construction. The expected timeline is as follows:

  • Site setup including excavation and earthworks: six months
  • Building construction: 24 months

Together with Mace, we will take all necessary considerations into account to ensure that the local community and environment experience the minimum possible disruption through the construction period.
